Testing for Stochastic Dominance Efficiency
We consider consistent tests for stochastic dominance efficiency at any order of a given portfolio with respect to all possible portfolios constructed from a set of assets. We propose and justify approaches based on simulation and the block bootstrap to achieve valid inference in a time series setting. The test statistics and the estimators are computed using linear and mixed integer programmin...
متن کاملDevelopmental systems theory: what does it explain, and how does it explain it?
We examine developmental systems theory (DST) with two questions in mind: What does DST explain? How does DST explain it? To answer these questions, we start by reviewing major contributions to the origins of DST: the introduction of the idea of a "developmental system", the idea of probabilistic epigenesis, the attention to the role of information in the developmental system, and finally the e...
متن کاملStatistical Inference on Stochastic Dominance Efficiency. Do Omitted Risk Factors Explain the Size and Book-to- Market Effects?
This paper discusses statistical inference on the second-order stochastic dominance (SSD) efficiency of a given portfolio relative to all portfolios formed from a set of assets. We derive the asymptotic sampling distribution of the Post test statistic for SSD efficiency. Unfortunately, a test procedure based on this distribution involves low power in small samples. Bootstrapping is a more power...
متن کاملTesting for the stochastic dominance efficiency of a given portfolio
We propose a new statistical test of the stochastic dominance effi ciency of a given portfolio over a class of portfolios. We establish its null and alternative asymptotic properties, and define a method for consistently estimating critical values. We present some numerical evidence that our tests work well in moderate sized samples.
متن کاملDiversification benefits of commodities: A stochastic dominance efficiency approach
We revisit the question whether commodities should be included in investors' portfolios. We employ for the first time a stochastic dominance efficiency (SDE) approach to construct optimal portfolios with and without commodities and we evaluate their comparative performance. SDE circumvents the necessity to posit a specific utility function to describe investor's preferences and it does not impo...
